I'd appreciate any insight on how to cut logs for figure/furnituremaking. I know the classic ways:
Yield - cant then cut clear planks towards the middle
QS - quarter log then go diagonally
Slab - cut slabs from top to bottom

I used to have all my logs slabbed to 8/4, but recently needed some 16/4 posts so we cut top and bottom slabs to 16/4 which yielded some 4" QS stuff between the posts. Downside was the slab was a bear to move. I'm about to have some black locust and cherry cut and am looking for insights about how to have them done. I make furniture, so FAS is secondary to some 'interesting' figure. I realize it depends on the log, and insight on how to size up the logs would be welcome, as well. Thanks in advance.
All cut stuff will sit in an outdoor covered shed for a year or two and then move into the shop.
