This is about 20--25 years old stock. I stripped this down with a Brownells product and sanded off the checkering.
This is just wet with water. The top half is lighter with no mineral stripes.
I'd like to at least color match to the bottom of the stock and Maybe get some stripes in there.
I have a can of Campbell paste filler (oil base natural color).
Think appying the tinted filler to the top half and sanding it back will work?
I've also thought about a spit coat to seal and then a filler for the open grain?
