Anybody have a red Jessem Mite-r-excel 1?

I recently got the original Jessem miter gauge but it’s missing the parts on the miter bar that allow it to snug up to the miter slot. Jessem no longer has parts for it, so I was hoping someone could show me what’s there and how it works so I can try to fabricate some. Thanks!

My guess is there is a plastic or brass piece missing from the elongated slot on the side which gets pushed out by a cam to snug up the bar in the slot when you turn the screw on top. If so you might be able to make a replacement from a plastic cutting board. Maybe Roger can confirm if he has one.

Yes I’m thinking the same. Maybe I’ll 3D print some replacements and see how it goes. Use some small threaded inserts for the two screws, which I assume lock it into position.

Here’s my miter gauge. It’s the same as yours except for the blue cam clamps. I was nibbling out a half lap joint using a stacked dado head and didn’t realism that the red extrusion was loose. I caused a brake fire on my SawStop. New brake. New stacked dado set. It was my mistake but I wanted to make it more obvious when the extrusion is loose.

Glad to help. A little more time now. The material looks like brass to me. The screws are unusual. They take a teeny little Allen wrench. The heads are very thin. I’ll try to get you more information.

notice from my dimensions that I can’t draw a straight line. I’ve had tremors nearly all my life. Recently, I ran across some of my work from a mechanical drawing class in college. I can see evidence of the tremors from 50 years ago. I was chastised in elementary school for my poor penmanship. Now I know why.

You could probably fit it with a piece of UHMW plastic and sand to fit.

the head takes a 1/16” Allen wrench.
the letters YFS are stamped into the head. The S is hard to make out so I looked on the other screws and I’m pretty sure. If it turns out to be. 5, I’d be a bit surprised.

LIke I said, the brake fire was my fault. I kind of hated to abandon the very nice brass knobs but I hated replacing the stacked dado set and the brake more. I know the blue clashes a bit but that’s what I wanted. I want to be reminded.
