Are there risks in using a catalyzed glue on veneer that's still wet with GF20 (veneer softener)? I'm veneering a shallow cove (1/16" over a 7/8" span) in a frame, and sometimes the glue 'grabs' while the veneer isn't 'bottomed out' in the cove. Even minor variations in the depth of the concave surface can be highlighted where two pieces form a 90 deg angle.

I tried soaking with softener, then pressing the veneer into shape for 24h. But the cove was almost non-existent once it dried. That attempt used a piece of tape-covered substrate and a tape-covered caul, machined to be a mirror image. (Tape to prevent keep either piece from absorbing moisture).

For completeness, the veneer is ribbon mahogany and substrate is close-grained fir.
Glue is Unibond 800, with light-brown hardener
Vacuum press (which probably won't "air out" the things inside it)
