Single Brain Cell Sketch Up has work to do..

As this mess is on the top of my bench
Bench Mess, Next project , end details.JPG
    Left overs..from 3 projects...thickness ranges from 1/8" up to 3/8"....all are Ash..
Bench Mess, Next project , end details.JPG
There are also a few 1" x 1" square stock pieces hiding around in the shop...

Will see what the "Sketch Up" comes up with....Need to get these out of the way, before the next "Stash of Ash" arrives later this month..

Had an issue with the last Project..in that I ran out of Spring Clamps......Shopping trip today eased that a bit....6 new spring clamps are now in the shop..and more MIGHT be on the way...

    Stay tuned..

Somewhere in the back of my head is a comment about clamps...

    Scraper Rebuild, better sole.JPG
However,,for $3..I picked up this Stanley No. 80 body...to replace it.
    Scraper Rebuild, replacement body.JPG
There are 2 out of 3 bolts that were broken off in the #80....will drill those out and re-tap...
    Scraper Rebuild, parts needed.JPG
Iron has been sharpened , and given a decent burr...new bolts, new tap and drill bit...retainer plate cleaned up and polished..

Have to dig out the Easy-out set...maybe tomorrow...been a rough, BUSY day, today.....Busy, Busy, BUSY...

    Stay tuned...

Waiting on the black paint to dry, at the moment...old bolts drilled out, tapped new holes..2 thumbscrews now have a hole drilled through them to allow a rod to help tighten, or, Loosen the bolts..Bolts fitted to the body...seem to be a hair too long...oh well...Sole of the plane is flat,, and polished up.

Will fully assemble and try things out..once the Black Paint is fully dry...

    Stay tuned..

Ok..shop is actually rather toasty...outside? 5 above zero, NOT counting Wind Chill....
Panel #1 is out of the clamps...and #2 has taken it's place..
    Panel Making, Panel #2.JPG
Panel #3 has had it's mating edges jointed..
    Panel Making, Jointed #3.JPG

Panel #1 is getting the glue joints scraped down..
Panel Making, scraped flat #1 Panel.JPG
Yes, that is the same No. 80 I had just rehabbed..
    Panel Making, Scraper Shavings.JPG
Note to self: Raise the plane up, on the back stroke...that screech can be heard a LONG ways...
    Panel Making, Laundry Detail.JPG
Had gone to the shop, on account of Laundry Detail.....waiting on Panel #2 to exit the clamps, so I can clamp up Panel #3...

need to sort through the rest of the pile..
    A New Project, bench full.JPG
And see what other panels I can make use of..

    Stay tuned...

Ok...panel #2 is out of the clamps, and is getting scraped down..
    The "Before"...
    Prep work, panels, the before.JPG
And..the After...and the No. 80 was being pulled towards me, due to the direction of the grain..
    Prep work, panels, the after.JPG
Panel #3 is now in the clamps..
Prep work, panels, Panel #3 clamped up.JPG
Extra caul in the middle, because the middle wasn't staying lined up..

Right now, I have these set aside..
Prep work, panels, inventory, so far.JPG
Until I decide what sort of box I am trying to build...these 4 panels..
Prep work, panels, 4 sides, maybe.JPG
I decided to rip for a certain width..because of one panel..
prep work, panels, trim a bit.JPG
That ugly knot had to go...

Trying to decide on where these 2 will go..
    Prep work, panels, possible legs.JPG
I also have 2 solid panels a little bit thicker...maybe a base and a topper/lid? Maybe the curvy stuff for under the base?...

    Stay tuned..

Now, about those 2 curvy parts....cut-offs from another project.
Would be nice to have them smoothed up, and at least match each other?
    We have ways...
The evening shop, mind the grain direction.JPG
Spokeshave? Seymour Smith & Son...clamped up "jig"?
The evening shop. Clamping the work.JPG
No...I am not worried about any marks left by the c clamps..as a through mortise will be going through there...

I now have parts to make 4 sides of a box ( with enough left over for a second box) and at least a base..
The evening shop, box sides ready.JPG
Base has had the better looking face beveled at 15 degrees...then the planes took over..
    The evening shop, edges done.JPG
And rounded the edges down and under to the underside
The evening shop, working both faces.JPG
Used both the Stanley No. 3, Type 11 and the Stanley No. 60-1/2.....block plane was more to work on the end grain ends...

May try to do some finger/box joints at the corners of the box...by hand. Might see IF a small tray could be added, too.

Awaiting the next Laundry Detail to happen....so I can just hang out in the shop, waiting on the washer to get done...?

BTW: those 2 clamped up parts with all the curves? The one straight edge on each also had to match....so
The evening shop, joint 2 edges.JPG
NOW they match. Last panel to be glued up? Has been cleaned up, awaiting a place to be used...

Lid for the Box? Might have hinges? And Maybe a latch? Curvy parts are to be the "feet" for the Base...

    Stay tuned...

    Stay tuned....

Giving them all a "second life" and putting them to work..
    A Friday Evening shoptime, square a line.JPG
Lay out work...3 diamonds on the 3" square..
A Friday Evening shoptime, saw work.JPG
Then a bit of handsaw work...
A Friday Evening shoptime, chisel work.JPG
    Then some chisel work...twice..then..
    A Friday Evening shoptime, 1st dry fit.JPG
A dry fit of Corner #1......yes I number the corners..to keep track of what goes where...

Also spent some time...with the #3 handplane...to round over the edges of the blank for the lid....

After spending about an hour replacing the lock set in the bathroom door.....getting slow in me dotage?

    Corner #2...
    A Friday, Part 2, Corner #2 done.JPG
Dry fitted along with Corner #1...

    Corner #3?
    A Friday, Part 2, Corner #3 done.JPG
Also dry fitted together...and, Corner #4?
    A Friday, Part 2, corner #4.JPG
Trying to hide? Also dry fitted....clamps have been pre-set...helps when doing a glue-up...not as much fumbling around.

Bench does have a spotlight, for when I need a little extra light..
    A Friday, Part 2, extra light.JPG
Tomorrow being a Monday..complicates things a bit...May be later afternoon before I can get out the glue bottle and brush..

And figure a way to keep this squared up...
    A Friday, Part 2, pre-set the clamps.JPG

As for the spaces of the "fingers"..
    A Friday, Part 2, spaced out.JPG
I use the same chisel I use to chop out the waste...about a 1/4" wide..

    Tracing around..
    A Friday, Part 2, traced around.JPG
I use a very sharp No.2....then use the 6" combo square to carry those lines up and over...

    Stay tuned..

Yesterday being a Monday (In every sense of the word) Shop was closed.

Task for today ( after Lunch) is to glue the 4 sides up into a box like shape...and hopefully keep it squared up at the corners..

The just MIGHT be Blue Streak coming up the shop's stairwell....

    Stay tuned....
