The 2 cauls will soon be the bread board ends..once the panel is out of the clamps..and squared up....have not decided how wide to make the BB ends, yet..

One of the blanks for the drawer fronts, was rejected...because of too many issues on one end..

Right where I was going to bevel the edges for a raised panel look, and a 3/8" rebate for a 3/4 overlay...and where the half blind dovetails where to go...rest of this blank will go towards a December Project.

Router was set up with a small cove bit..and run around the outside edges of the case...but not along the back

Ok...it is not known as "Hump Day" for nothing....3rd Wednesday of each month, is PayDay...after paying the bills this morning, and a bit of Grocery shopping...a stop at Lowes for a few 1 x 6 x 6 "White Wood" boards..

Trust me..you do not want a clearer view of these 5 "boards"...best of the rack, after picking through 20 boards...

Got back home, things were unloaded...Lite Lunch....then to the shop....pipe clamps were removed, and the panel was set aside, for now..

Couple weren't square, couple were a bit long...and a couple were too wide bodied...Plan says I need a 3/8" wide rebate on 3 out of the 4 edges...had to allow for that.

Fronts needed beveled, too..set things up, and run a test piece..

Been a bit busy? Rebate along the top edge of each drawer front, needed a bit of cleaning up..

Got 3 out of 5 Drawer Fronts done and fitted....then the toes started to cramp up...back between the shoulder blades too...decided to take a break for a while...

Once you start a cut..NEVER slow down along the way...unless you like burn marks...

Stanley #45 with a 1/4" cutter...makes a lot of shavings..

That you will need to clear after 5 or 6 trips...Also, I have an old plain candle, I can rub along the groove, to help the plane glide along...

May or may not try again later today...depends on how the body feels....can't work 12 hours days IN the shop any more..2 hours seems to be about the limit.

Depending on the weather this evening..I might take that trash can to the burn pit...depends on any wind...

I need to mill a BUNCH of these...the 4 wider drawer fronts weren't too bad to do, but #4 Drawer?

Wanted to be special....wider rebate at the top, too....first set of sockets were made with the grooved bottom edge against the fence...the sets for the other ends were done with the rebate top edge against the fence

Maybe later tonight, will haul the Lowes Planks to the shop? Need 10 drawer sides, and 5 drawer backs...and zero knots....we'll see how THAT goes

Once they are cut to size and fitted into the drawer openings...I can complete the dovetails..and maybe do some assembly work?

Ok..Lowes Lumber...1 x 6 x 6' Whitewood planks....picked through 20+ boards to find 5 that MIGHT work...cross cutting for drawer sides, first..

Will worry about ripping to width later, when I find out how wide/tall they need to be in each drawer..one size does not fit all, in this case

I've read and re-read this thread a few times and will probably do it again. I'm still not quite ready for the workshop so I living it through you. I was just looking at those routed dovetails and they appear to be extremely long?? Also, I know you've told me before but you have an affliction for plane numbers with a c following. What's that about?

Dovetail sockets are for 3/4" thick sides..

When one is working across resiny Pine boards, the grooves prevent the plane from sticking to the board...But...I can just as easily switch to the non-c models, as all my Millers Falls planes have none.

Planes with a "c" in my shop..Stanley No. 3c, No.4c...no No.5s have groovy soles..There is a Stanley No. 5-1/2c and the Stanley No. 4-1/2c....a No. 6c (2 !) a Stanley No. 7c, and that No. 8c..
The No. 5-1/4 is smooth soled..and is a Millers Falls No. 11, Type 2

I use a bandsaw to make all the cuts, on the waste sides of the lines....Because I can SEE a lot better where the saw is going...and a few extra cuts help with waste removal..

Last night, decided to haul a plane down to the shop...and of course just had to do a test drive....Since that side for Drawer #3 needed planed flat..

Plane was made by Millers Falls, and sold at your local Sears Store, back in the day....iron is stamped as a Fulton, Lever cap says Craftsman...side of the plane says Craftsman No. 3709 Made in USA..

Anyway...wound up making a mess on the floor ( hard to stop, when a plane works so nicely, ain't it?)

To the point that both faces of the board were flat...went ahead and cut the tails and installed the side into Drawer Front #3 and stashed the drawer out of the way...

By the way...a Millers Falls No. 9 is about the same size as a Stanley No. 4 plane. Be sure to add a few squiggles of candle wax to the sole before use...

Quitting time! last 2 drawers have their sides fitted...then the bottom drawer and the top drawer have got the groove thing done..

Just got back upstairs from the shop 2 hours of shoptime, today..

Fresh DNA on a Project...

Last dovetail Tails were on drawer #5...started the grooves on the sides of that drawer..

Hey, they even line up! Drawer #5 is done as far as grooves are concerned..then I start in on Drawer #1 and got it done...then decided to call it a day..until after Football?

Just got back upstairs...from the shop...last of the grooves are done

First 2 dados are done...but not with the Stanley No. 45..

Mortise gauge to define the lines..
Backsaw to cut down to depth needed...matches the depth of the groove

Chisel to rough out the waste...
Stanley No. 71-1/2 to "plane" the floor of the dado smooth and flat

Film in the morning...Drawer #4 has it's dados done. may reset the holding jig, tomorrow...current one is not hold very well

Not sure what the problem is with the #45...yet...may have it set a tad too deep? Trying to take too big of a bite?
We'll see..have to "sleep on it", I guess....

Ok..research on that #45 plane set up...
1)..bad jig set up...part was moving around in the jig, trying to leave...New Jig..

Part stays put, now..
2)..depth setting was way too deep..was even below the nickers! raised the cutter up to just shy of the nickers depth...

3)..Drag the #45 backwards a few times to set the nickers into the wood,,without trying to actually plane the dado...stop there

Use it where the nickers exit the far end of the cut, saw down to the final depth of the dado...prevents any big blow-outs there..

Clean smooth with the router..plane. Test the fit..

As for that little square? I always add a starter bevel to the drawers I build..

Makes sliding a drawer into the case a lot easier..

So..issues with the Stanley No. 45, Type 4.....depth was just too deep...was cutting BEFORE the nickers could reach the wood..and a better holding jig helps out, too..

2 drawers now have their dados done...only need to mill 6 more dados...and those "Starter Bevels"..then mill the backs and the drawer bottom panels....might get this done, yet..
