A Nov. Project, MONDAY, messy saw.JPG
Tablesaw is a bit crowded...was working on the case...
A Nov. Project, MONDAY, repair spot.JPG
Had to repair a split...fill a few cracks, and..
A Nov. Project, MONDAY, braces done.JPG
Finish up the braces in the corners of the top...

A Nov. Project, MONDAY, drawer front 1.JPG
One of the drawer front blanks...
A Nov. Project, MONDAY, new wood.JPG
This is the "better part" of the 1 x 6 I brought back home....the other part?
    A Nov. Project, MONDAY, knotty.JPG
    has that big old knot...
A Nov. Project, MONDAY, big knot.JPG
Which I think just might wind up in the Fire Pit, at some point...

A Nov. Project, MONDAY, needs cleared off.JPG

I also need to clear this mess off of my bench...and get the tablesaw cleared off as well...need to size parts for a panel glue up..tomorrow...

Bench has been cleaned off a bit...had work to do...
A Nov. Project, Tues., edge jointing.JPG
    Cordless Jointer...Lufkin Tinner's Rule as a straightedge...
    A Nov. Project, Tues., 2 edges jointed.JPG
Trying to close any gaps going on....first layout of the top's panel...
A Nov. Project, Tues., Front view, knots.JPG
A couple of knots to work around..but, not too hateful...

6 boards jointed, and glue and clamps...
A Nov. Project, Tues., panel glued up.JPG
And clamps and cauls on both ends..
    A Nov. Project, Tues., clamps & cauls.JPG
The 2 cauls will soon be the bread board ends..once the panel is out of the clamps..and squared up....have not decided how wide to make the BB ends, yet..

One of the blanks for the drawer fronts, was rejected...because of too many issues on one end..
A Nov. Project, Tues., rejected end.JPG
Right where I was going to bevel the edges for a raised panel look, and a 3/8" rebate for a 3/4 overlay...and where the half blind dovetails where to go...rest of this blank will go towards a December Project.

Router was set up with a small cove bit..and run around the outside edges of the case...but not along the back
A Nov. Project, Tues., Router detail.JPG
Was not enough solid wood back there.

BTW...when a Lunch box planer finds a knot...
A Nov. Project, Tues., Planer vs knots.JPG
Noisey, BAD things are going to happen...

waiting on glue and me to dry out...and get the glue up off of the tablesaw...have work to do...
    Stay tuned..

Ok...it is not known as "Hump Day" for nothing....3rd Wednesday of each month, is PayDay...after paying the bills this morning, and a bit of Grocery shopping...a stop at Lowes for a few 1 x 6 x 6 "White Wood" boards..
    Lowes Lumber, 1.JPG
Trust me..you do not want a clearer view of these 5 "boards"...best of the rack, after picking through 20 boards...

Got back home, things were unloaded...Lite Lunch....then to the shop....pipe clamps were removed, and the panel was set aside, for now..
A Nov. Project, Hump day, clamps removed.JPG
Safer to leave the cauls in place...Drawer fronts needed sized to their openings...
A Nov. Project, Hump day, drawer fronts ready.JPG
Couple weren't square, couple were a bit long...and a couple were too wide bodied...Plan says I need a 3/8" wide rebate on 3 out of the 4 edges...had to allow for that.

Fronts needed beveled, too..set things up, and run a test piece..
A Nov. Project, Hump day, test piece.JPG
Took a couple tries to get things just right...then run the 5 parts through..
    A Nov. Project, Hump day, 5 raised.JPG
Supposed to look like this when all is done..
A Nov. Project, Hump day, #1 just right.JPG
    Back to them rebates..
A Nov. Project, Hump day, rebates.JPG
Done with the tablesaw....easier than hand plane work for 15 rebates...test fit?
A Nov. Project, Hump day, #4 is tight.JPG
A bit too tight...Drawer #4 was being a PITA, today...

Stay tuned...( there are 21 photos, after all)

Ok...to house the drawer bottom...I need a plane..
A Nov. Project, Hump day, has work to do.JPG
A Type 20 should do the job..once I get it assembled..
A Nov. Project, Hump day, needs set up.JPG
Clamp a drawer front to the bench..
A Nov. Project, Hump day, Groovy.JPG
    Groovy, Man!
A Nov. Project, Hump day, been busy.JPG
Been a bit busy? Rebate along the top edge of each drawer front, needed a bit of cleaning up..
A Nov. Project, Hump day, rebates leveled.JPG
Ward's No. 78 this time around...
surface was feeling a bit rough, too...
A Nov. Project, Hump day, No. 80.JPG
No. 80 took care of that....

Got 3 out of 5 Drawer Fronts done and fitted....then the toes started to cramp up...back between the shoulder blades too...decided to take a break for a while...
A Nov. Project, Hump day, Krunchies.JPG
Sweep up the Krunchies and head upstairs....and chill out for a while...

    Stay tuned..

Besides all them Krunchies on the floor...
A Nov. Project, Hump day, messy floor.JPG
Tablesaw was busy, making a mess on the floor...
A Nov. Project, Hump day, swept up.JPG
    Swept up all the piles...but..
A Nov. Project, Hump day, too full of it.JPG
Kind of need to empty the can first?

One tip while doing raised panels on a tablesaw...
    A Nov. Project, Hump day, don't stop.JPG
Once you start a cut..NEVER slow down along the way...unless you like burn marks...

    Stanley #45 with a 1/4" cutter...makes a lot of shavings..
A Nov. Project, Hump day, working.JPG
That you will need to clear after 5 or 6 trips...Also, I have an old plain candle, I can rub along the groove, to help the plane glide along...

May or may not try again later today...depends on how the body feels....can't work 12 hours days IN the shop any more..2 hours seems to be about the limit.

Depending on the weather this evening..I might take that trash can to the burn pit...depends on any wind...

    Stay tuned...

Lets see..last night, snuck back down to the shop,,and finished up the grooves and rebates..and left a mess on the floor..
A Nov. Pro., Thurs., last night work.JPG
This morning..needed to move the tablesaw out of the way...grab the fence, though..
A Nov. Pro., Thurs., Normal home.JPG
As I will need the fence for this thing..once I drag it out to where I can use it..
A Nov. Pro., Thurs., Router table.JPG
As it is already set up for use on a router table...
A Nov. Pro., Thurs., Start & stop lines.JPG
    Including "Start & Stop" lines...because...
A Nov. Pro., Thurs., other end.JPG
I need to mill a BUNCH of these...the 4 wider drawer fronts weren't too bad to do, but #4 Drawer?
    A Nov. Pro., Thurs., #4 a bit different.JPG
Wanted to be special....wider rebate at the top, too....first set of sockets were made with the grooved bottom edge against the fence...the sets for the other ends were done with the rebate top edge against the fence
A Nov. Pro., Thurs., Sockets milled.JPG
While trying to match the socket spacings at the other end...

After all these were done..then I had to take the Boss to Wall E World....while there..
A Nov. Pro., Thurs.. Knobs bought.JPG
Package of 10 knobs? 2 per drawer? works for me....

Maybe later tonight, will haul the Lowes Planks to the shop? Need 10 drawer sides, and 5 drawer backs...and zero knots....we'll see how THAT goes

Once they are cut to size and fitted into the drawer openings...I can complete the dovetails..and maybe do some assembly work?

    Stay tuned..

    Ok..Lowes Lumber...1 x 6 x 6' Whitewood planks....picked through 20+ boards to find 5 that MIGHT work...cross cutting for drawer sides, first..
A Nov. Pro., Thurs., Drawer sides cross cut.JPG
Needed 5 pairs....next...rip these into sides that will fit the drawer fronts..
A Nov. Pro., Thurs., Drawer sides ripped.JPG
Looking just a loose fit....where they just slide right in...

    Some sections of these boards...
A Nov. Pro., Thurs., just a bad edge.JPG
Thought MAYBE this was just a bad edge...
    A Nov. Pro., Thurs., NOT.JPG
Other edge, same board...good thing I bought extra?

Next...for right now, I need 5 drawer backs cut to length...
A Nov. Pro., Thurs., 5 drawer backs cross cut.JPG
Will worry about ripping to width later, when I find out how wide/tall they need to be in each drawer..one size does not fit all, in this case

Some of the sides are a bit bowed/cupped...we have ways..
    A Nov. Pro., Thurs., Planed.JPG
    Stanley No. 4-1/2c, Type 11...
A Nov. Pro., Thurs., Needs some work.JPG
They would have to flat saw a log here....

That will be about it, for one day...back is hurting, right between the shoulder blades...I feel a Tonic & Gin is in the cards for tonight..

    Stay tuned...

I've read and re-read this thread a few times and will probably do it again. I'm still not quite ready for the workshop so I living it through you. I was just looking at those routed dovetails and they appear to be extremely long?? Also, I know you've told me before but you have an affliction for plane numbers with a c following. What's that about?

Dovetail sockets are for 3/4" thick sides..
    A Nov. Pro., Fri., 2nd try.JPG
Which is the sides of the drawer...as for "c" model planes?
A Nov. Pro., Fri., Overkill vs Cupping.JPG
When one is working across resiny Pine boards, the grooves prevent the plane from sticking to the board...But...I can just as easily switch to the non-c models, as all my Millers Falls planes have none.

    Planes with a "c" in my shop..Stanley No. 3c, No.4c...no No.5s have groovy soles..There is a Stanley No. 5-1/2c and the Stanley No. 4-1/2c....a No. 6c (2 !) a Stanley No. 7c, and that No. 8c..
The No. 5-1/4 is smooth soled..and is a Millers Falls No. 11, Type 2

Tails today....used the sockets to mark them out...then..
A Nov. Pro., Fri., chopping block.JPG
I use a bandsaw to make all the cuts, on the waste sides of the lines....Because I can SEE a lot better where the saw is going...and a few extra cuts help with waste removal..
    A Nov. Pro., Fri., Drawer #2 done.JPG
Got the sides for the top 2 drawers fitted..
A Nov. Pro., Fri., 2 drawers done sided.JPG
They can stay here, out of the way...

No. 3? Back was starting to hurt, camera was getting a low battery...so, after one end was fitted..
A Nov. Pro., Fri., halfway mark...JPG
Will start off with this piece, next time..
A Nov. Pro., Fri., Quitting time!.JPG
Yep, old No. 8c will be back at work...

Last night, decided to haul a plane down to the shop...and of course just had to do a test drive....Since that side for Drawer #3 needed planed flat..
A Nov. Pro., Fri., Culprit, maybe.JPG
Plane was made by Millers Falls, and sold at your local Sears Store, back in the day....iron is stamped as a Fulton, Lever cap says Craftsman...side of the plane says Craftsman No. 3709 Made in USA..
A Nov. Pro., Fri., Craftsman #3709.JPG
Anyway...wound up making a mess on the floor ( hard to stop, when a plane works so nicely, ain't it?)
A Nov. Pro., Fri., late night follies.JPG
To the point that both faces of the board were flat...went ahead and cut the tails and installed the side into Drawer Front #3 and stashed the drawer out of the way...
A Nov. Pro., Fri., 3 out of 5.JPG
So, later after Brunch has settle through the System...maybe I can get the last 2 sets of sides done? Then start on the grooves & Dados?

    Stay tuned...

By the way...a Millers Falls No. 9 is about the same size as a Stanley No. 4 plane. Be sure to add a few squiggles of candle wax to the sole before use...

a Saturday in the shop, new jig.JPG
    So I can start these..
A Saturday in the shop, Groovy, Man.JPG
Sides did need a little work, again..
A Saturday in the shop, making shavings.JPG
To get some of them a little flatter...

    Busy day?
    A Saturday in the shop,busy day.JPG
You could say that....didn't even feel these...
A Saturday in the shop, OUCH!.JPG

    Fresh DNA on a Project...

Last dovetail Tails were on drawer #5...started the grooves on the sides of that drawer..
A Saturday in the shop, grooves line up.JPG
Hey, they even line up! Drawer #5 is done as far as grooves are concerned..then I start in on Drawer #1 and got it done...then decided to call it a day..until after Football?

    Stay tuned..

Just got back upstairs...from the shop...last of the grooves are done

First 2 dados are done...but not with the Stanley No. 45..

Mortise gauge to define the lines..
Backsaw to cut down to depth needed...matches the depth of the groove

Chisel to rough out the waste...
Stanley No. 71-1/2 to "plane" the floor of the dado smooth and flat

Film in the morning...Drawer #4 has it's dados done. may reset the holding jig, tomorrow...current one is not hold very well

Not sure what the problem is with the #45...yet...may have it set a tad too deep? Trying to take too big of a bite?
We'll see..have to "sleep on it", I guess....

Ok..research on that #45 plane set up...
1)..bad jig set up...part was moving around in the jig, trying to leave...New Jig..
    Dado 101, NEW Jig.JPG
    Part stays put, now..
2)..depth setting was way too deep..was even below the nickers! raised the cutter up to just shy of the nickers depth...

3)..Drag the #45 backwards a few times to set the nickers into the wood,,without trying to actually plane the dado...stop there
    4)..Jackson Backsaw..
Dado 101, still need the saw.JPG
Use it where the nickers exit the far end of the cut, saw down to the final depth of the dado...prevents any big blow-outs there..
    5).. plane the dado..
Dado 101, corner blow out, happens.JPG
That little square? not too worried about it...will be gone away, later...
IF the floor is a bit rough...
    6)..
    Dado 101, clean-up.JPG
Clean smooth with the router..plane. Test the fit..
Dado 101, test fit the back.JPG

As for that little square? I always add a starter bevel to the drawers I build..
    Dado 101, clipped corner done.JPG
Makes sliding a drawer into the case a lot easier..

So..issues with the Stanley No. 45, Type 4.....depth was just too deep...was cutting BEFORE the nickers could reach the wood..and a better holding jig helps out, too..

2 drawers now have their dados done...only need to mill 6 more dados...and those "Starter Bevels"..then mill the backs and the drawer bottom panels....might get this done, yet..

    Stay tuned..
