    Spindle bore

I want to drill a centered hole in a 5/8" dowel with just a few inches sticking out of the chick. Are there wood lathes with a 5/8" + headstock bore. Update: I found pool cue lathes!

    Thanks Gordon

Ask a woodworker to "make your bed" and he/she makes a bed.

I know that metal lathes have bigger bores through the headstock. Powermatic 3520 has a 5/8". but not plus. Oneway 2436 is less than 5/8". I guess you don't have a drill press? Plenty of ideas on Google for drilling a dowel on the drill press.
