Splotch appeared when staining
Greetings,
I recently completed a sofa table (top is 23" x 86") of solid red oak. When staining the "splotch" (see attached photo) appeared on the table top. I don't believe anything was ever set on the table, but with a wife and kids you never know ;-(
Anyway, any ideas for fixing this short of completely sanding and re-staining would be appreciated.

That stain looks suspiciously like a ring from a wet glass or cup. I'm not sure how to get rid of it short of starting over. Hopefully, someone has dealt with this before and can offer better advise.
