The Kinzua railroad viaduct is no longer. It was until Monday the tallest railroad bridge in teh U.S.....My grandfather drove trains across it for 30+ years. My father rode across it in the 1960's and took 8mm movies. I've walked across it several times with my wife and children. A severe storm took out the whole center section on Monday. 100+ mph winds, possibly a tornado, did the job.
Kinzua Viaduct
It will be greatly missed. They say it would cost more than $40 million to rebuild it. It went out of active service at least 20 years ago, though there was still a park service train that went over it.
It now joins the N.H. man in the mountain as things you can't see anymore!
