compressor pump PKL/ELS

Found a new old stock twin cylinder pump with pressure lubrication locally, and now am trying to figure out what the best speed to run it at is.

I've seen 700 rpm mentioned.

The only name on the compressor is a stamped metal tag indicating "PKL/ELS Made in USA 31186 A" See pic.

It has a 12 inch dia flywheel for a single std v-belt drive, so am thinking a 3 hp motor I have should drive it. The motor is 3450 rpm, so 2.5 in drive pulley = 720 rpm at the pump.

Suggestions and advice welcome.

If it's pressure lube, I'd be surprised if it was for a 3 horse. My pressure lubed one is 10hp. Is it a single cylinder? This one has a 1725 rpm motor on it. Size large glove for size reference.

I have seen pump lists from major manufacturers who make pressure lube small horsepower, but they are expensive.

The color looks like Quincy blue to me. I wonder if it their special climate control pump designed for max 100PSi or so.

Can't tell exactly by size with no reference, but it looks like a 3hp motor wouldn't know it's there. That price in Bill's post seems high.

I don't know if it is just me, but google gives a lot of garbage advertising first in their searches.
Try to find EL Smith compressors and it gives everything but.

My main question is how fast to spin it.
2 1/2" drive pulley is about 720 rpm
2 3/4 is about 790 rpm.
My guess is 800 rpm is not going to wear it out, and since I THINK the 3 hp motor is plenty, it shouldn't overtax that either...
Sad to have to guess.
I will try to call Quincy and ask them if it is theirs.

Talked to Rol Air and they said they haven't made pressure lube pumps in 30 yrs. This pump may be that old, no way to tell.

I asked if he had an idea what speed they should run at, and he said they run splash lube at 1000 to 1100 rpm, but a pressure lube does not need to spin that fast. So perhaps start where I was thinking at 800 or so and see how it runs.....

Sent a pic off to Quincy and they said they'd look at it and get back to me.

Set a pressure relief at 50 psi and read the amp draw. Raise the pressure and enjoy the experiment.
