G and G Lights Need Some Input

I am building two of these lights for the living room. I still have some shaping to do on the ends of the framework but right now am trying to decide what to do with the upper cross piece on two sides. See pics below.

This is what two sides will look like

This is the other two sides. There will be colored glass behind (inside) the framing. Trying to decide whether to notch the ends on the upper rail and slide it tight to the upper frame to close the gap showing at the top or leave it where it is and let light shine through this gap.

    Appreciate any input.
    Regards,

    Kris

I would close the gap, but not by raising the upper rail - that would make the sides have different dimensions. I would make the top rail the same thickness all the way around. They are going to be mighty nice when you're finished.

Stand for something, or you'll fall for anything.

Thanks Bill. I will noodle on this a bit. Haven't spent much time in the shop lately but need to get these done.
