    Stanley Spokeshave Blade Width

New to using spokeshave. I have the Stanley 63 and 64 spokeshaves. The original blades are not in bad shape, but want to upgrade to the newer materials for blades. Hock blades has the 1 3/4” size listed for my spokeshaves as A2 material, but is out of stock and they are in transition from being bought out by Lee Valley. It may be quite a while before that size is available. Lee Valley does have a 1 3/8” blade made from V11.

Has anyone used a smaller width blade in a spokeshave and found any problems due to the smaller width? It might not be necessary, but I could fill the side gap with epoxy.

I made a wood blade just to see how it would fit. My other option is to use the original blades until I can get a Hock A2 blade.

When working I had more money than time. In retirement I have more time than money. Love the time, miss the money.

I would just continue to use the original blades till they are no longer sharpenable, but I'm cheap.
