    Mahogany for sale

I've got mahogany that has been sitting high and dry since 1977.

    4x12 15 feet
    5/4 18" wide 15 feet
    5/4 12" wide 12 feet
    $2200.00 for ALL

I've waited too long and now it probably will not get used by me.

I'm not a dealer, the mahogany has been saved from my step-dad's shop. He died in 1977.
He probably purchased in the '60s when he was building custom hand carved furniture
    in the Atlanta area.
I've used some to make a dining room table and a few other projects.
I'm now 90 now and cannot even lift one end of the 4x12.

Located in Columbus Georgia. If interested contact me.

I remember my step dad saying," Honduras". When he spoke of it.

You might post some photos when asking $22 bd/ft for non-retail lumber.

Genuine Honduran in those dimensions will pique many folks interest, but I’d imagine most will want to see photos first. Just a suggestion.
    Still waters run deep.

Mahoganies can be very hard to identify even up close, but that sure looks like Honduran mahogany- Tight, smooth grain; more orange appearance; and straight grain with little variance. Looks like a nice stash.

$22 not a bad price for unobtanium.

There are only 2 REAL mahoganys . Swetenia, and Machrophyla African mahogany is NOT a real mahogany. It’s ok for some things ,
but much more difficult to work as it it has crazy grain. Swetenia is no longer sold except from old pieces of furniture and old stashes,
real heavy with less grain pattern than Machrophyla.

Actually, there are THREE real mahoganies, and they're all Swietenia. Macrophylla (Honduras), Mahogani (Cuban), and Humilis (dwarf).

Cuban mahogany can still be found for sale in Florida, where it grows in residential neighborhoods. And while there are lots of urban legends about mahogany, dating back hundreds of years, there a good bit of evidence that shows that there's more difference in the wood within one species that between the species. I.e. a dense sample of Honduras is denser than an average sample of Cuban.

For more reading, I recommend "Mahogany: The Costs of Luxury in Early America" https://a.co/d/2WoqQjR Be warned though, as bad as the exotic lumber trade is now, it used to be a -lot- worse.

How many of you have read the story of The Tree? Maybe the most famous Honduras mahogany tree ever.

Too many “mahoganies” already. I know ‘em when I see ‘em.

I have, and a late friend of mine had a OOO from The Tree, made by another friend of ours. His widow has it now, and i still get to strum it on occasion. I couldn't see spending $50-$75 each on pen blanks from The Tree, so i made those two guys pens from 'hog neck blanks salvaved from Gibson's Kalamazoo plant. I'll never forget the look on Greg's face when i mentioned The Tree--his guitar was in the final stages of build--and he was stunned that another mere mortal knew of the legendary tree!! Tearing up a bit just remembering that night--appreciate you bringing it up!!

This is why I ask if its Honduran. Those are lovely big hunks... but hard to ship. Broken down into guitar sets or neck blanks $22.00 per BF is inexpensive.
"The Tree" is quite spectacular. Nick has several sets that are just as spectacular and quite a bit older.
