I'm a fan of big drawers, especially since big drawers = less drawers. But there are two drawbacks. One is that accessing stuff in the back can be a pain, mostly because the fully extended drawer is so enormous that it takes up a lot of space in front of the table. The other is lateral stability. Wide drawers can be wobbly, especially wide drawers that are not deep. My solution has been high quality full extension slides and a slightly tighter fit.
