    Leftovers,2023

That time, again....time to clean up the mess left by the last Project....
    Leftovers, cleaned floor .JPG
Dispose of the scraps I can no longer make use of...
    Leftovers, about filled up .JPG
Sort through the stacks of Leftovers....
    Leftovers, small stuff .JPG
and see what I can find that might be of use....like these?
    Leftovers, the big stuff.JPG
Others needed resawn to remove a lot of nasty things, like 1 x 6 KNOTS, or one face that was nothing but bark...
    Leftovers, resawn.JPG
    All that is left of a nasty 1 x 6 x 5' plank...others just needed a trim?
    Leftovers, need sawn .JPG
Just run a saw kerf all the way around...leave the decent part..cut away the junk..may have to get down one of these?
    Leftovers, ready for work .JPG
Thinking the one on the right will work a bit better...

We'll see what we have Leftover....might be a Project of some sort?
    Stay tuned...

There is still a 1 x 6 x 6' plank upstairs....trying to decide WHAT to do with it...
    From the good end..
    Board, one end,.JPG
Lumber is supposed to be Ash..next section?
    Board, next section .JPG
    and the 3rd section..
    Board, 3rd section .JPG
    And the other end....?
    Board, last section .JPG
and a look at the other face near this spot...
    Board, flipped over.JPG
Not sure how much would be of use...yet...$0.80 a Bft...is what I paid...

    Resaw, ready to start .JPG
Had the board a tad high in the vise..
    Resaw, half way there .JPG
That's a bit better,,,saw down half way, turn the board end for end..
    Resaw, and done .JPG

    Resaw, Next! .JPG
Have to be careful..as it is hard to tell when you'll meet the other cut..

    Resaw, made some sawdust.JPG
Made a mess, too..decided to try and clean up that first board..
    Resaw, clean-up,Aisle#1 .JPG
Plane was sold by Van Camp, no less..
Resaw, 8 inside the D .JPG
    Yep...there is an 8 inside that "D"...saw is a 28", 5-1/2 ppi filed Rip...with a thumbhole handle....cost me $1 at an Estate Sale a few years back...

Tis a Monday,,,lots of rain in the area, tornadoes to the south of here...Kind of sore, at the moment....more of a case of Uncle Arthur (itis) not liking this sort of weather, than anything else.

The way things have been going, today....I don't think there will be any shoptime, tonight.

Unless it is to process that last plank? Just to see what I can "salvage" out of it....too wet outside to get the Fire Pit started up..anyway.

Depending on what comes out of all that resaw work...maybe a fancy box or 2? Choice of corner joints?

Right now...the "save able" boards are around 3/8" to 1/2" thick....Box joints, or Dovetails?....might even try my luck cutting the lids off....?

    Stay tuned...

    Last Plank, edge view .JPG

Not the prettiest ones...but way better than the rest of that plank, there was also a piece from the resaw/plane work Sunday..
    Leftovers, 1st cleaned up .JPG
Might find some use for these?

    Laying out.
    Dovetails,Day 1, laying out .JPG
Was not to happy with it..
Dovetails, Day 1, laid out pins.JPG
Figured I could change it a bit...was not happy with the No. 68 Dovetail saw, either..
Dovetails, Day 1, pins sawn .JPG
Disston No. 4 seemed to work better...
    Dovetails,Day 1, half chopped.JPG
Chopping out from the outside "Show" face..then flip over and finish things up..
    Dovetails, Day 1, pins chopped.JPG
Used these pins to lay out the matching tails...needle sharp No.2 Pencil works just fine....saw on the waste side of the lines...chop out the waste..dry fit a few times until..
Dovetails, day 1, dry fit 1.JPG
Still need a mallet to fully seat the tails...will do for now..

Tried "Tails First"...did not go quite as well...
Dovetails, Day 1, Done tails first .JPG
5 or 6 dry fits to get this far? Not up to my (Very Low) Standards...will do the other 2 corners as Pins First...
    Dovetails,Day 1, compared .JPG
Maybe because I am just used to doing it that way...

    Stay tuned..

    Two thoughts:

I’m pretty happy if I make one thing a month. You seem to be on a one-per-week pace. That’s hard to keep up with!

I bet some of those scraps are big enough to use, are you sure you want to throw them out?

Just keeping me out of the taverns, is all....most of those "scraps" are barely good enough for the Fire Pit...
    Thanks for looking in!

    Lid work...needed a few parts..
Work on a lid, Parts needed .JPG
The Lid itself needed trimmed to match the box....the 1/4" thick piece needed a few strips ripped...
Needed to shed a bit of light, to better see what I was cutting...
Work on a lid, shedding some light .JPG
Over on the Stanley No. 358 Mitre box...
Work on a lid, cut-off .JPG
What is nice, that most of the cutoffs would just hop over to this..
Work on a lid, No. 358 .JPG

    Ok..Dry Fit times...
Work on a lid, dry fits .JPG
    Sand to adjust for length..
When things look close enough (will trim after this), a glue up happened,,,smaller clamps this time around..
Work on a lid, Glue up top .JPG
A bit of squeeze out, can be cleaned up, later....
    Parts is parts...
Work on a lid, squeeze outs.JPG
    Even when a plane does a Photo-Bombing...

Shop is Normally Closed on Mondays....
    Stay tuned...
