Thread: Cabinet Warping

    Cabinet Warping

These are some kitchen cabinets (poplar and plywood) in a home remodel I’m in the middle of. Unfortunately, due to some HVAC issues and a delayed painter, these sat unfinished in the cold space (and alternating to warm) for a few weeks; and several of the cabinet doors no longer close flush to the face frames.

The temperature has been regulated now for over a week around 72, but the doors have not returned to the original form. Would adding some moisture to the air (will get a humidity reading later today, but we’re in Dallas) help them “un-warp” at all? Or, am I stuck having to have these doors re-made?

More time could be your friend. Keep all doors open.

Time is one thing we may not have much of, unfortunately.

We may be able to adjust the hinge hardware enough to make it work; but the schedule doesn’t leave us a lot of choice and we need to get primer and paint up in the next day or two if there isn’t a fix likely to make a fairly quick difference.

IME, a certain percentage of cabinet doors go south, regardless.

You could try clamping on a diagonal brace and block- might help...

Yes, and leaving them open for a few days, should have been the plan. Now it’s the fix.
