    Router Dust Collection Box

My shop made fence on my tablesaw extension wing provides great dust collection when routing workpiece edges, but I needed a solution for operations such as routing a dado in the middle of a piece. I tried the Milescraft kit, which is a soft rubber cup mounted from underneath, and even with several modifications it didn’t work well with my Jessem lift.

So, like many others I built a box with a dust hose attachment. I used 1/2” plywood to keep the weight down. I added a second hose fitting inside the box with a short section of hose connecting it to the router, which allows it to “breath” fresh air instead of sawdust. I also added a variable air intake in the door. I installed a paddle switch, which is a joy to use instead of reaching under the table to turn on the router.

The box works great, giving great suction around the router bit and clearing out almost every speck of dust inside. It was definitely worth the time to build it.
