I recently tried a pair on my doctors recommendation. They were the "closed" toe style and they crushed my toes. They were so painful I couldn't keep them on after just 15 minutes. I just learned there is an "open" toe style. I need to get a pair of those.

I am a retired pharmacist and live in the uk I would advise seeking professional advice On a practical note
(1)The leg should be measured first thing in the morning before it has increased in size
(2)You should ideally be standing when the leg is measured
(3)If the leg is irregulsr in size you made need made to measure stockings
(4)Important The videos below demonstrate 2 methods open or closed toe for putting on stockings which may be useful
Rational These are easier to put on using the following methods

    (4) Wash the socks by hand do not twist to remove water and dry flat not on a radiator

the link below is a Uk link but the information may be useful

Please note this point is very important

Before prescribing, arterial insufficiency should be excluded by measuring the ankle-brachial pressure index (ABPI) using Doppler assessment.
the link below contains information and advice and provides guidance why you need proffesional advice

Brian, me too. I get the closed toe but my wife cuts them out and makes them into shorter ones that end just below the ancle. I have to look for the open toe style. Thanks for the heads up.

I see now there are soft Merino wool compression stockings that come in colors and styles. I did get a pair of the knee high and wore them to my cardiologists appointment. He wasn't sure because they aren't really medical socks and just listed as heavy compression. They are comfortable and nice to wear as dress socks without the bulk of regular socks over compression stockings. https://www.smartwool.com/socks/compression-socks.html

Try baseball socks. They rise high on the calf, are snug, and what I really like about them is that they are L and R so the toes don't get smashed together.
