    Holly and ebony music box

My wife and I had our first anniversary last weekend, I’ve been working on this music box as a gift past few months. It’s holly with ebony trim, brusso side rail hinges, finished in gloss polished nitro lacquer. The movement was custom made by Sankyo in Tokyo, the tune is Bruce Springsteen- I’m on fire. There’s a wire stopper to start the music when the lid opens and glass that’s removable to protect the movement. Lots of learning, but a very satisfying completed project.

That’s very cool. The workmanship looks very good and the mechanism adds a lot of interest.
    Congratulations on your anniversary!

Beautiful personal treasure box! But you must be disappointed about not finding the “Ebony and Ivory “ tune. . .

    Wonderful gift!
Love the contrast in the materials and the simple but attractive design.

Beautiful looks like something one would buy at Tiffany’s.
I like working with holly I’ve never seen any that wide and white.
    Nice work

I had a 20” chunk of 10/4 holly sitting in my shop for the past 2 yrs. I resawed it and managed to pick and choose enough clear pieces to do the whole box, but just barely, it doesn’t dress out great

An absolutely beautiful piece of work. You are going to get plenty of brownie points for that one.

A wonderful gift. The challenges of working with holly and ebony need to be experienced to be understood . A treasure for the next many, many years.
