    It wasn’t and isn’t my first choice but:

    I needed a scrubby type plane and didn’t have a grinder at the time. What I did have is an LN roughing blade I’d bought when I thought I might someday get another #5* and my bronze #4. Out of desperation I put them together and opened the mouth as wide as it would go in stock form. Wow, it worked well for me. So we’ll that now that I have my grinder I haven’t been in a rush to grind the blade I have for my LV 5 1/4.

    I have my father's Craftsman converted to a scrub and also picked up a Staley 78 missing most of it's stops & fences on the cheap to see how I like it. Paul Sellers seems to like that one, I haven't used it enough to decide yet.
