I'm Signed in but Keep Getting Asked to Sign In & It Won't Let Me

I was a little surprised this morning when I received the "if this is your first time" message.

Okay, maybe something was reset and I signed in and checked the Remember Me box. Later today when following a link from another post it got this:

    Already Logged In.jpg

It would not let me log in. The page acted like I was logged in, though where images should be looked like this:

    Attachments.png

Clicking on the attachment text let me see the images.

It all just seems weird and the top of this page shows me logged in.

    Are some pages corrupted?

This is the link to the page > http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?212156

I did not remove the suffix until after having the strangeness. The link will work either way.

A few of us had similar problems and one suggestion was to delete your shortcut to SMC then log in at sawmillcreek.org and once in make a new shortcut... worked for me

I'm not sure that is the problem, though I will try it if the problem recurs.

Thanks Barry, you made me do a little bit of sleuthing on my own. The results are below. Not sure if there is anything I can do with out the ability to go into a post and edit it after all this time.

I was actually signed in to another page at the time as I am now. It seems fine navigating to other pages here on SMC, but the page linked above just now gave me the same reaction as before.

I just used my bookmarked link that allowed me to go to the SMC Classified page with no problem.

There may be a glitch with the one page or it may be a few pages.

Just now tried clicking on the link on the page in question and It gave me a page wanting me to sign in as pictured above.

After signing in it gave me this:

    Invalid.png

I have the URL to that page stored in a text file. That gets me to the page with no problem.

It may be the links on those pages did not have their format changed in the last upgrade.

https://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?183743 < gets me to the page without a problem

The links on the page are > http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?183743 < no s after the http and the www. needs to be removed then everything works well. So for some reason some of the older links to pages on SMC are broken.

Hope someone can find a way to fix this anomaly.

Haven't cleared any cookies and the link comes up fine. The problem seems to be within the two pages linked above. It may also be a problem with other pages.

I haven't had any problems coming in fresh today. I have not visited the pages mentioned.

All links here should begin with https://sawmillcreek.org/

    Semi-Technical explanation:
I had an automatic redirect up for the last 3 years so that "http://www.sawmillcreek.org" links found on search engines would still work and update with a 301 redirect error code, but that has recently been turned off. If you log in under an "http" URL, your cookie will not carry over to the "https" URL, and you'll have to log in again. Worse, if you are browsing a mix of http and https URLs, some will be logged in and some will not which can lead to frustration. (Note: We could have just left it as http, but then everyone's browser would pester them about not being secure, please use https, etc., so there's really no easy win.)

Aaron, thanks for the explanation, the problem appears to be in the pages linked above. The links on the pages have the http: designation instead of the https: in the URLs.
