What type of axe head is this

    Hi All,

I know nothing about axes but was recently given these two heads when I bought the router plane. I didn’t really want them but I had to take them. I don’t think these can do anything anymore but they look old.

Does anyone know anything about these or if I should try to remove the rust to see if there is any branding?

They could be splitting wedges or meant for a maul.

If you look at the tops or bottoms, do they have through holes for a handle to be mounted? The mushrooming on both indicates they have been hammered on some.

If they have pretty small through holes, like for a framing hammer or a small engineer's sledge they might be what a blacksmith would call a chisel- a cutting tool for red hot metal.
