1953 I believe. This shows patternmaking and casting. The skill and physical effort at all levels are humbling to me.

Thank you, that was a really interesting video.
Thanks for posting
Here is a 1873 water powered foundry and shop. The foundry shut down around 2000 because of smog laws. I think it is a museum now. It had a water turbine running the tablesaw when i saw it around 1980. I think they poured iron once a week or so then.

Such an interesting video Bruce. Thanks!
Thanks for posting. We did some casting in shop class many years ago. I've forgotten nearly all of it. Pattern makers were a skilled trade all to themselves.
I grew up and attended school in the Black country an area of the Uk with a rich industrial history
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Country
Black Country as "black by day and red by night", adding appreciatively that it "cannot be matched, for vast and varied production, by any other space of equal radius on the surface of the globe"
In 1969 at the age of 12 as part of metal class we as a group of 18 students cast object using the same methods demonstrated at the beginning of this video I would be surprised if this type of class activity would be permitted toda
An interesting look back, laughable health and safety standards, a good indication of how far we’ve come.
My father was injured in a mine before the war, on his way to the doctor he assumed he had been fired as he was no longer fit for duty….Different times…..Rod
