Grommet under rail and stile bits?

I have seen the Sommerfeld (CMT?) router bit videos, where he advocates using a grommet under the bit, and switches bits without adjustment. Neat, but I have never seen any info on whether other brands are ground to match also.

I usually use a single bit cope/stick bit, so have little experience with two bit systems. Has anyone else tried the grommet trick with other brands of cope and stick bits? Did they match??

Inquiring (idle) minds want to know.

I did it and it did not work. I am not even sure it really works with his bits. The height can vary just by the difference in the torque from bit to bit.

An o-ring is easier to source. Neither is accurate with no drawbar and a rigid stop to pull into. Search for the term "presetter". I suppose an endmill holder might be somewhat repeatable but at the cost of some longer stickout and wobble.
It may be cheaper to buy a used CNC vertical milling machine then a presetter.
