Type 6 knob for type 4 #8 fittment?

I need a front knob and hardware for my Type 4 Stanley; a seller on ebay has one for a type 6, but I understand there is a change in the casting of the plane - there is no ring on the type 6.
Does anyone know if the type 6 will work on my type 4?
I can wait, if needed ......

I don't know about a ring in the casting, but I do know I have two early no 4's and one has a wider knob than the other, and they are both low knobs

If your type 4 has a ring in the casting, it is more likely at least a type 14.

This is one reason images always help to make things clear.

A type 4 knob does have a ring/bead cut in to the base of the knob.

The top of the knob was also a bit different.

Any knob before type 14 should work fine.

Ok I’m definitely wrong. There’s no ring - Jim you helped me identify this as a Type 4 a few moons ago. I’ll try and post a picture from my phone
