Hardwood flooring finish repair

I had a colleague at work ask me about touching up some areas on his hardwood floors that are showing wear from foot traffic and pets.

I still have to get details if the damage if wearing through any color on the floor, or just damage to the top coat.

Has anyone used any off the shelf products to accomplish this.

One of the hardwood floor contractors in our town scuffs with scotch brite and sprays on some rattle can polly (Minwax). I tell my clients "its more complicated"

Depends on the finish. Some floor finishes, such as Moisture Cure Urethane don't allow anything to bond to them, and it has to be stripped down to bare wood.

Unfortunately he does not know what the existing finish is or the brand/make of flooring since it was in the house when he bought the home.
