My Daughter (30) got shocked with a hair dryer that had a damaged cord. (Please don't say she should have known better, I aready said that.) She has a nasty burn 1/2" wide across the underside of her arm and had to have an EKG to check her heart. All OK thank goodness.
Passing this on so folks here can avoid that issue by a quick inspection.

Good advice. Curious if it was plugged in to a GFCI protected outlet? Of course, even if it was, you can still get shocked if you contact both sides of the line.

She has a pretty modern house so I think Probably GFCI. I am heading out to her house today and will check and report back. That is info worth knowing.

I have a problem with my wife and cords. She thinks nothing of adding a couple of knots and repeatedly twisting a device the same direction until it resembles a phone cord. Twists weaken the ability to flex while knots and kinks add resistance. Resistance = heat which will degrade the cord faster. Glad she is okay and will probably be more vigilant on cord inspection now.

It was GFCI. Perhaps worse if it wasn’t. Just speculation.
