    Lathe spindle

My new 1.25x8 adapter does not fit my Nova DVR3000 lathe spindle. The adapter is smaller, ID is 1.1", the spindle thread OD measures 1.5". Could my spindle be a M33?

Yes your spindle thread is an M33 thread.
    Here is the manual.

A moment with Google reveals that this lathe was available with three spindle thread sizes:

    1¼ x 8 in North America
    33 x 3.5 in Europe
30 x 3.5 in Australia and New Zealand

33mm equals 1.3". It should actually measure 1.2992" Are you measuring with a caliper? It is an odd lathe that has a 1.5" thread.

The newest adapter M33 came today....It does not fit, too small. That leaves a 1.5" left to try. Caliper measures 1.495" on the male spindle. I know what the manual says about the Nova DVR 3000, but being the third owner, I have no clue why it is not what its supposed to be. Someone along the way must have changed it for some unknown reason. I'll give it one more shot an order a 1.5" and see what happens. Fortunately I have three chucks that fit, but none indicate the female thread size.
Next call will be to Scotland Yard.....

Thank you. Tried them all and all are too small.
I think the problem is that a chuck insert (a 1.25 ID x 1.5 OD) for my lathe (1.25x8) is (and quite tight) on the spindle. This is why my spindle that is supposed to be a 1.25" OD is now a 1.5"OD.
This is assuming that the standard NOVA chuck ID insert size is 1.5"x8). Does that make sense?

The internal (female) thread in the Nova chucks is 38mm x 3 for taking a spindle adaptor.

    23055 M38 3 SuperNova Chuck
    48202 M38 3 NOVA G3 Chuck

Is that the OD of the adapator fixed to the spindle?

The problem with leaving the adaptor there is that it limits what else (like accessories with 1-1/4" spindle thread) that you can put on the lather other than the Nova chucks.

Perhaps a previous owner CA glued the adaptor onto the spindle to save on buying more adaptors for their chucks. If so, some heat will loosen the CA.

About the same distance from most of you heading East or West.

It's easy to see the Dunning-Kruger Effect in others, but a bit of a conundrum when it comes to yourself...
