    Baltic Birch replacement for Laser Engraver

    Hi,

    I have a home business that pretty much depends on Baltic Birch 3mm, 6mm, & 12mm. I cut and engrave using laser machines. I buy it by the pallet, and it has been tough getting it this last year. I managed to source 2 pallets recently, but it looks like it's going to get really scarce now with what's going on. My question is, does anyone have any suggestions of a wood or type of wood I can use that will be similar in properties for engraving and cutting that I can use?

    Thank you,

    Brad R

    Hi Brad;
    I do not like baltic birch- lousy engraving, poor contrast.
    For 20 years or more I have been using different suppliers of luan ply with mixed results- cheap $15 for a 4x8 sheet
    Current favorite in 3mm is Home depot u8nderlayment- not luan but engraves well. For 6mm I use Lowes (actually 5mm) Revolution Ply- price has gone from $14/ 4x8 to $26

    That 3mm stuff is good, no bad spots with glue, I usually am cutting through, but have engraved some. Just have to watch for the warp.....
