    Walnut coffee table

So continues my bulk posting of winter projects. This was my sisters Xmas present. It’s designed to match the farmhouse aesthetic of her place. Base is 5x5” walnut, joinery is nice straight forward castle half laps. Top is 40” diameter, 7/4 thick. It was my first go at hand flattening a surface, which was exhausting, but pretty satisfying. Finished in BLO and satin nitro lacquer, rubbed out to a silky finish.

Nice grain pattern and finish on the top.

Yes Justin, I agree with Lee - the walnut figure shines. Flattening a table top by hand can indeed be an exhausting but exhilarating experience, primordial, akin to chopping wood on a brisk autumn morning.

Lovely to make a piece with such grain, really gets noticed in the room. Knots and reversing grain in such a top can be a nightmare to do well.

Very nice! I like seeing those shavings, it is satisfying. I don't use my planes often enough. Zooming in on the scraper. I don't have one. (yet)
I screen captured and rotated the image in your shop it still uploads sideways. After a tiny crop and save it is rightside up.

Nothing like some basic beauty to let the grain shine through.
