Almost done planing the bench

I have some other things I want to attend to as well. The square dogs have no spring to keep them up and it's a real pain when I want to one as a bench stop as opposed to clamping in the end vice. I've seen thin stock glued to the lower edge of the dog, slight bevel at the bottom before gluing them on. I've also see spring loaded bullet type things used. What's your favorite?

I will put some BLO on for a finish to protect it from my hasty glue and dye jobs.
I also need to make more dogs to fill all the holes as I've seen suggested. And the stupid chop on my face vice, providing I don't change it out for something else, needs to be replaced with a more appropriate design.

I used the thin stock on a angled face method for holding up my dogs. It works well.

Used a cardscraper instead of sandpaper, I think it came out pretty smooth, enough fir a bench anyway. Used 50/50 linseedoil mineral spirits for the first coat. 2 more should do it.

Next up, vise jaws and spring loaded dogs , 1 for each hole.

Interesting David, do your square dogs actually work in those round holes?

Hi Jim,
It took me a second… ha! The dogs are happiest in their rectangular holes. The holdfasts like the round ones.
