    Carbide Planer Knives

Anyone switched out the HSS blades on a DW 735 for the carbide blades. They are a lot more expensive but cutting a lot of mesquite really dulls the HSS blades, or should I bite the bullet and get the Shelix or Lux Cut III? Carbide at $265 with tax and shipping and Shelix (10-12 month waitlist) and LUX III (available mid March) at $513.00

I had a 735 with infinity carbide tipped knives they were great. At the time I had my pm15 with a bryd head the 753 left a better surface.
If you do get them post back and I post a pic of sharpening fixture that will have you saying why didn’t I think of that.
    Is your mesquite rough sawn

I cannot speak to the DW735 portion of your question however we use carbide knives in our MiniMax FS30 for mesquite and pecan on a regular basis. We love them. We are still on the first edge of the double sided knives in our Tersa head after several years.
