    Bookcase build

While not as extraordinary as the one built a while ago, I am putting the finishing touches on my book case. I need to finish fitting and attaching trim and then it should be ready for paint. Thinking a green or a blue milk paint.

This is the biggest build I have done without the use of power tools. Many things learned along the way.

Looks very good. How did you fasten the top? What joint did you use for the shelves? I vote for dark green. You have a well equipped hand tool kit there.

The top board of the carcass is dovetailed and the top is glued to that board. The shelves are held in by dados. I used a back saw to cut the walls of the dado down to depth, chiseled out the majority of waste, and used a router plane to flatten to final depth. Dark green was my original plan, and I think I am going to stick with it. I have a dark blue I picked up that's kinda nice though too.

I like it and also vote dark green.
Are you going to shellac the knots prior to paint?

Nicely done! Looks like you’ve got a great cozy shop there, too, everything close by for easy use.

I hadn't thought about that but seems like a good idea

Very impressive - nicely designed and nicely built. Add another vote for dark green.

Nice bookcase Jason. Why shellac the knots before painting?

Nicely done! And I'm partial to green as well. Post pics when finished.
