    Hide Glue Pot

Does anyone make a hide glue pot anymore?

Lee Valley has one but its out of stock.

Doesn't look like Hold Heet still makes them.

I kinda wanted a dedicated glue pot instead of using a crock pot but can't find a source anywhere?

Wondering IF that 1.5 Qt Slow cooker by Pioneer Woman, sold at Wall E World would do?

Yes, I'm sure there are all kinds of crock pots or bottle warmers that I can make work, but I try to adhere to a buy it once quality tool instead of going that route.

I’ve got a Hold-Heat I bought for $3 at a yard sale, but I don’t think it’s any better than a Crock Pot that has a real degree setting instead
of “warm”, “warmer”…. And you can always use a good cooking thermometer.

Interesting, that gets around the temperature issue with a bottle warmer or crock pot. Does it have an auto shut off after a period of time?

I use a mini-crockpot that came with a real one. I cut a hole in the lid for a thermometer. If you bought one, more than $10 would be too much. I don't use hide glue often but when I do, the little crockpot works fine. I put water in the pot and put the glue in a jar in the water.

I used a full size crock pot for a long time, last Christmas I got a Hold Heet.

In some ways, I like the crock pot better

    1. I can keep a hammer veneer hot
    2. I have a convenient source of hot water to clean up
    3. I have a source of hot water to add to the glue if needed.

So far, I haven't put the glue directly in the HoldHeet, rather in a small jar and water bath.

I bought the wax pot recommended by an article in FineWoodworking and simply put, it did not work worth a hoot. The first time I used it, turned all the way up, it just barely got to 140, after that it would never go over 110. Maybe something wrong with it, but I do not recommend wax heaters!!

I use one of those for waxing my bike chains. I wonder if I could buy another insert. It would, indeed, work well as a glue pot. Otherwise, I use a small crockpot with glue in a jar.. (I also use the crockpot to heat epoxy).

Any love for the old school dedicated glue pots?

    I use a Kambrook hotplate.
Shown is my 'daily driver' on the hotplate.
There's also a small cast and a larger aluminium pot as backups.

My FIL (a restorer as well) uses a hand iron in a vice for his pot.
