    Table top

Hi guys. My outfeed table/workbench top is really starting to get bad. Top layer of mdf has evidently taken on moisture, and has dips and humps. (Top is three 3/4” sheets atop a 4x4 and 2x4 frame) Weighs a ton.
Anyway, thinking about leveling the top with a router and sled, then adding a 1/2” layer of mdf (with a finish this time), or 1/2” melamine from menards.
Which would be my best bet?
    TIA

That's a whole lot of MDF dust to deal with. Big mess. Could you cut 1/2" off the leg bottoms, and add a 1/2" layer on the top?

Or make the added layer formica. Formica is considerably more durable and waterproof than the MDF you have now. It is only a sixteenth thick, so you might not need to trim the leg bottoms.

Flatten it as best as you can and put plastic laminate or 1/8" hardboard on top and as Jamie mentioned, reduce the height of the legs. You can consider using levelers on them as part of that to be able to micro-adjust the height if you want to.
