    I got a start on Christmas

    I got a jump on Christmas gifts this week.

    Sometime last year I watched Tom McLaughlin make a shaker box on the PBS series Classic Woodworking. It looked easy enough so I ordered the form, templates, steam box and supplies from John Wilson (shakerovalbox.com) If you’re interested in building a few yourself, I highly advise buying your supplies from him. He’s a great guy to deal with and about the only place I know you can order the bands and copper tacks.

    Most of these are cherry with quarter sawn sycamore tops. The finish is two coats of clear shellac, then a light coat of paste wax rubbed in with 0000 steel wool.

    I have made 100’s of shaker boxes. John Wilson is the go to guy for them
