    pewter

Is there a way to know if pewter contains lead? We have a candle holder I bought for my wife in the late 60's at a gift shop. It broke and needs to be soldered together but hate to mess without knowing.

Thanks, I know next to nothing about metal work.

I have in the past tried to freshen up Pewter items and found them to be hard to work with. I think if you try to solder it it may have a meltdown. 50-50 solder is 50% tin and 50% lead and melts very easily. Pewter is mostly lead.
