Can my dust collector be fixed?

I have had a Jet 650 dc for years with no issues. I went to use it yesterday and… nothing. Silence. I checked the breaker and the outlet and the power cord and they’re fine. I opened up the switch box and there was a little dust which I blew out.

I am not an electronics person and I don’t know what else to check. I don’t know if the dc is now garbage or just needs some small tweak.

    Any suggestions? Thanks.

Check if there’s a reset button on the motor. And check the capacitors.

Might be the switch. I've had to replace the switch twice in 20 years on my Harbor Freight.

    Check for power after switch.

+1 on capacitor. Should be an easy and cheap fix.

I think if it was the start capacitor the motor would hum but not start. If there is nothing then probably not the capacitor, still could be the reset if there is one. Also double check that you have power, either by trying another outlet that you know works or plug a light into the one you are using to confirm power. You wouldn't be the first to spend hours troubleshooting only to find no power.

Thanks, guys. It was the switch! I love easy, no cost solutions.

this was the inside of the switch box.

I isolated the on/off switch by making a direct connection.

Plugged back in and it started right up. I took apart the on/off switch, scraped the connections, put everything back together and we’re good to go.

Good to hear, I picked up a used jointer a few years ago, it ran when I picked it up. Got it home and like your dust collector, nothing happened when I flipped the switch. Opened up the switch box and a piece of the paper the wiring diagram was printed on had broken off and was stuck between the contacts. Like yours a zero cost repair.
