PM 2000, chapter 2

This is a new twist on my earlier "PM 2000 inop" I found a repair shop seemingly well qualified. Durham Pump & Well serves the bulk of all the irrigation needs of rice and orchards in our area. They pulled the capacitor cover and found fried wires. Replaced both capacitors and motor will not start, and they say they cannot fix it. This is my first encounter with a proprietary motor. It makes sense given all the dust to which that motor will be exposed. Where can I find a replacement for less that $1100.

I think you meant $1100. and not $11K. Either way shame on PM. I searched for a 3hp 145TC motor and the cheapest I could find was $680. I would be so mad I would sell the PM and buy something different and then write a letter. I know you would be out more money but it is the principle. In case you want to know what I found here it is. You might want to check the specs completely to see if it will fit.

Cary, Thanks for the correction, it feels like 11K. Good research, but I'm a little leery at such a low figure and free shipping on a 60# motor .

I have had good luck with used motors as long as they do not smell burned. Watch shaft size the frame mount does not guarantee the shaft diameter is the same. Also check rotation direction.
I would pay less then half the quoted prices from the bay for a used motor.
Why did it fail? SF?

There are motor repair shops that can rebuild motors for a decent price. When I lived in Richmond, VA I used Roy’s Electric and they were competent and prompt. There is probably a shop near you that is similar.
