    Athol Coach makers vise

I picked up a cool Athol Vise today. It's a woodworkers vise or coach makers vise. The previous owner put a plate on the bottom to lock the quick release. I took it off and the Quick release works just fine. It's a model 413 1/2 and has 3 1/2" jaws. I paid a little more than usual but it's not something you see every day. I thought you guys might like seeing it. ThanksIMG_3470.jpgIMG_3471.jpgIMG_3472.jpgIMG_3473.jpgIMG_3475.jpgIMG_3482.jpgIMG_3481.jpg

It's cool but how is it a woodworker's vise? A coachmaker would have use for a metal vise.

I believe Athol became or was bought out by Starrett. Maker of top quality measuring tools and inventor of the micrometer.

PS: AFAIK Starrett headquarters is still located in Athol Mass.

Not much metal on a coach. Some nuts and bolts would be it. Leather springs, metal door latches?
