So if you attached an elastic band /hair tie?, could the other end be put over the door knob to keep the door snugly closed and not rattling while driving

I'm thinking along the same lines, like it's some sort of 'rattle-stop', and that bar was the best-looking option..? Lord knows EVERYTHING rattles in these things while driving. We stuff rolled up rugs against the 'rolling' doors in ours to keep them from driving us nuts while cruising...

HOW that bar would be used to stop a rattle if that's what it's for, you may find that out on the road in the near future!

All of us were wrong. We had a visitor tour tour the motorhome and knew instantly what it was for. It's the base to a wall mount make-up mirror that swings out from the wall.
