Have a question on finishes- something I know very little about so far- building out my basement into a world class poker room. Will be putting a few wall shelves along the wall next to the pool table for players to set their drinks. Planning to make it out of some nice 2 1/2" thick cherry that's been drying for last year. Would like the cherry to be a deeper cherry color than just poly, so wondering what oil/dye or stain that you like, that is compatible with a water resistant top coat. Since it will have drinks on it, it needs to be durable, and also relatively water resistant. I was thinking about using water based poly, but not sure if that will leave water marks. I included pics of the pool and poker tables for reference- hoping to get a darker full cherry finish to maybe not match, but complement these two that are same, more than just an wet cherry look. Thoughts, ideas, suggestions on this, or something else to use?? TIA for any input!pool table.jpgbasement.jpg
