    A bit of joinery happening

I have always worried about having to make short tennons in a case like this. This should resolve that. Both tennons go deep. These are finger joints buried inside the legs of a cabinet. Will do similar at the top. Should be fairly rigid. In fact I would bet that a long tumble down a huge set of stairs would not cause the joints to fail.

Tom are you hand chopping the mortise? How are you laying it out. Your tenons look perfect. I’d be interested in a few pictures of the mortises. Looks like a stunning piece.

I’m intrigued as well. Looks really precise but would love to see the mortises.

Great innovation for a tricky situation.

From looking at it my guess is the mortises are just straight mortises and the finger jointing is the interlocking of the rails inside the legs.

Look at the tenons on the two pieces, they are offset.

Mind blown, It would have never occurred to me to have straight mortices with interlocking finger jointed tenons. Some day someone will be impressed if they ever get it apart.

It impresses me that it is done in a wood like purple heart.

This is a common practice for situations where the corners are too thin to accommodate a tenon of proper length.
Here is a photo that might help some visualize the method.
