Texas Creekers: FELDER/HAMMER WILL BE IN AUSTIN SOON…

We’re going to be exhibiting at the Texas Woodworking Festival: https://texaswoodworkingfestival.com/

I’ll have a Hammer A3 in the booth (sorry, already long-ago sold!) as well as a FAT300 table and whatever else we can fit into the penske truck. Also, I hope to get approval from Austria to offer what was the AWFS pricing deals during this show. Lead times continue to be long but I sense that folks understand this now.

I personally am really looking forward to this show. Not only is the venue really cool: https://fairmarketaustin.com/

…but the show organizers are serious business people who also run the Austin School of Furniture & Design: https://austinschooloffurniture.com/

It’s a one-day show, so you can make a fun weekend out of the trip. Please come out and say hello.

Quick update: I got the booth layout and exhibitor list for the show. Really looking good. The local Festool dealer will be next to our booth, as well as Shaper and Pantorouter. Also a number of well-known Texas woodworkers and furniture makers will be doing seminars, meet-and-greets, etc. The show director was telling me that he’s seeing a number of registrations from out of state, so there are folks actually flying in to attend this show. Please check it out.

LOL, I believe so. I realize that she may be somewhat of a polarizing figure in the woodworking community but having actually had phone calls and a sit-down meeting with her (we tried to put something together as far as a brand partnership prior to the pandemic), it is clear that she has worked very hard to get where she is and you have to respect that.

That being said, there are some truly accomplished woodworkers and furniture designers on the roster: Philip Morley, Gary Weeks, Leslie Webb, Frank Strazza, etc. Central Texas is sort of becoming an incubator for fine woodworking. The Austin School of Furniture and Design got a little derailed by the pandemic but is going to be getting a new space soon, so this is an exciting time and place to be.

I think the promoter's goal with this show is not just to bring in a bunch of vendors but to connect the local ww'ing community with actual makers and creators. In my opinion, this is the right move. Having been a part of the whole hobby ww'ing show scene in the early 2000's, one cause of the death of that scene was that there were no actual creators. Just vendors, so it became a flea market where you saw the same stuff every time. Anyhow, I am really excited to do this show.

I’m familiar with that part of downtown east Austin, (I used to live in the area,) and parking there is a real pain. How do plan to handle that?

I thought the same thing but there is actually quite a bit of parking nearby, due to all the condo developments that have been going up. So, it is not just street parking like it used to be a few years ago. The Fair Market website actually has a map of nearby lots and there is quite a bit on the opposite side of I-35, too.

Bump: One week until the show. The event promoter did a webinar with all the vendors earlier this week. According to him, they are on track to have 700-800 guests, not including last-minute walk-ins. We will have a Hammer A3-31 in booth (sold) along with a Hammer N3800 bandsaw (available), a Felder FD-250 horizontal mortising machine (available), and a FAT300 table with MFT Grid top (sold). The local Festool dealer's booth will be next to ours and he agreed to loan us a few clamps to display on the FAT table. On our aisle will also be Pantorouter and Shaper, which I am excited to see in person. There will also be live demonstrations from Philip Morely and Frank Strazza. Show details: https://texaswoodworkingfestival.com/

There is a baseball game at UT the same day. The show venue is far enough away from the stadium that those crowds should not impact show parking. Here is a list of parking garages near the show venue: https://texaswoodworkingfestival.com/parking/

The show was great! Got to meet a number of customers I had only dealt with via phone/email (always nice) and attendance was great. This was the first hobby show I’ve done since probably 2006, so was maybe a little anxious but everything went perfectly. Can’t wait for next year’s.
