    I also prefer a large vintage jointer. It is quite the commitment so only for the serious craftsman.
    Before the China virus the used market was great in my area. It’s very much picked clean.
    I don’t recommend the older machines much anymore since it’s getting harder to find and not many really want to dedicate the space.
    Today mantra is I want convenience I want more bang for my buck. I don’t have time to fix something that could or should be in a museum.
    I just want to make a farm table and coat it with epoxy.
    I still believe there will be a good used market again in a couple years.

    Andrew, did you ever get your 166 rotor / motor repaired? I seem to remember you were looking for a replacement motor at some point.

    I haven’t found a replacement yet but still look around.
    I was able to shim the rotor to take up some of the looseness. Unfortunately it’s not as round and centered in the field coil as it should be. It will probably eat the bearings eventually.
    For now it’s good.
