    Painting veneer

I am restoring a 1936 Rockola jukebox which has 2 ea 24" x 28" sides that have a mural on each. I need to remove old veneer, then paint a new mural on new .035" veneer.
What veneer is best to use for this: PSA or paperback glued with TitanDX? If PSA, will paint bleed thru and mess up the "stickability"? Should I glue on first then paint?
I prefer to paint, then apply veneer to JB surfaces. Plan on using Benjamin Moore classic latex.

If you put water based paint on veneer which is not glued to a substrate, it is likely to curl unmanageably.

I would put the veneer on first and then paint the picture.
