    There may be gold inside...

    This morning I was rummaging the scrap bin for a small piece of white oak. I found this chunk which would have been completely adequate. It was about 1" thick and rift cut, and since I only needed 5/8" I thought I'd resaw it to quartersawn to try to get some nice grain. What a nice find! I think I may do this more often.

    Looks good! For small pieces that can be handy.

    Note that if you need it thicker, you can make one cut to expose the quartersawn face, swap the pieces and glue the original faces together.

    I've used the same technique to get rift sawn from 8/4 flat sawn.
