I built a hall table out of poplar with the intention of finishing it with a solid color paint, such as BM Advance or equivalent. When i asked what the final color was to be my wife said "lets do a whitewash finish". Most of the way through applying the whitewash we decided the look was not what we wanted. i had thought the fall back position would be to go ahead with the original plan. A coat of BIN primer and then spray the paint. Now I notice that the grain has been raised significantly requiring a careful sanding to knock down. My question is can the whitewash coat after light sanding work as the primer coat, eliminating the need for the BIN?
