    A "free" Mortise gauge?

    Barn Sale today....best 2 words I ever hear.....and...
    6-4-21 yard sales, total.JPG
2 different sales....hammer from an Estate Sale...$1.....the Jack and the mortise gauge were a package deal, for $10.....Points on the gauge are still sharp..DAMHIKT
However, it was a bit on the Krusty side...

Yeah.....so, hauled it down to the shop...for a bit of a clean up...

    Watch this space....
    Mortise gauge, rehab complete.JPG
Took it all apart....sanded the wood (Rosewood?) smooth...shined the brass fittings up.....the threaded adjuster got it's threads cleaned up, and oiled...
    Mortise gauge, brass sliders.JPG
Not sure which maker used this style of brass slides...
    Mortise gauge, brass hardware, pins.JPG
Apparently, they also used steel rivets to hold the head in one piece....

All cleaned up, and ready for work.....not too bad for "Free" is it?

Ok, that Jack plane was next...Missing a lateral lever ( not that big of a deal) Had the wrong chipbreaker ( a #3 sized one, replaced with a #4 sized one, with the bolt) Replaced the brazed back together lever cap with one that wasn't..
    The Jack Rehab, messy.JPG
Under the frog was a nasty mess.
The Jack Rehab, frog clean up.JPG
Frog needed a good cleaning. At least the bolts came out easy enough...except for the one in the clip....decided to leave that one alone..
The Jack Rehab, could be a problem.JPG
A crack turned out to be a clean break...cleaned off the old, dried glue to bare wood...reglued
The Jack Rehab, sole is done.JPG
This took about.....10 minutes to do....about the same about of time I spent on the iron's back.....another 10 to sharpen.
    The Jack Rehab, more replacements.JPG
Replace the bolts with more correct, for a Type 12, tops, and the short rod. Gave the black areas a spritz of gloss black....put things back together..
    The Jack Rehab, clean side.JPG
And set up a test track..

Mr. Barnes' old Jack plane is now back in service...

At one time, this was a Stanley No. 5, Type 12. Seen a rough life out on the farm.

Was a busy weekend of sales....more trophies to show....stay tuned...

    Ok..that $1 hammer...
    6-4-21 yard sales, total.JPG
That had 3 ring-shank nails as a wedge....
    6-4-21 yard sales, hammer needs a wedge.JPG
I spent $2.99 counting sales tax to rehab the hammer..
    6-4-21 Hammer, new wedges.JPG
Both a wooden and a steel wedge were installed, and ground down flush. Rust was wire wheeled off, at least the areas I could get to..

Handle did have a deep nick or two....gave the handle a wrap, to improve the grip.

    Haven't found a maker's name...might be from Plumb?
