Those are good ideas. I think I'll ask Geoff at Adjust-A-Bench if I could order a custom top. His gallery photos show a lot of different laminations that all look flat enough to be assembly tables. Don't know if I'll be using shouldered mortises, but that's some interesting joinery used for timber framing. This is my last bench, and just building the base will project enough for me for this last go round.

I'm a huge fan of my adjust-a-bench. I bought a pre-made maple top from Grizzly, added a thicker apron of Maple and a nice vice. Having easy height adjustability is awesome, my bench goes up and down for most projects. If you get the legs on the floor it is very stable, if you add the wheels and they are 'down' on the floor there is a small wobble. I move the wheels down only for the rare occasion I need to move the bench, like to make room for a car during a hurricane.

There’s also a guy in Berkeley, MI who builds custom Roubo’s. I think I saw his ad on eBay.
